About Allen
Hi, my name is Allen Brower and I am a freshman at UNG this semester. I am currently majoring in a pre-engineering/math dual degree, although I have a conditional acceptance at Georgia Tech. I plan on transferring there next year and majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I am responsible for the advertising side of the project and will be advertising the 2 hour event in front of the HOAG center on the Dahlonega campus of UNG. This issue is important to me as, I have worked with another non-profit organization, Meals by Grace, in the past that has focused on helping to feed the hungry in their local community. I am looking forward to doing my part in helping feed the hungry in our community.
Personal Timeline
Accomplishments
-
We had a larger turnout than expected at the event.
-
We had more people show up to our table than anticipated, and thus we ran out of our questionnaires before we ran out of people that were willing to come up and talk to us.
-
We must’ve picked the right place because HOAG got real busy during our two hours.
-
Between our group members and the addition help from Mr. Jeff Parker, we were able to convince many to stop by and listen to our cause.
-
We got a couple of bags of food to donate, which was impressive seeing as the Flush Flash didn’t post any of our announcements (or any others for that matter) the week of our event.
Actions
Skills
-
We all learned how much time, effort, and paperwork goes into holding a fundraiser/donation drive.
-
It was the first and only kind-of-extracurricular event I’ve participated in college so far, and the first time I’ve ever been tasked with advertising something--that was a new field for me.
-
I had to work on my public speaking skills as it was a public speaking kind of event, which was also a new field for me.
